Restoration Counseling
College Students PDF Print E-mail

College is not all fun and games.  Newfound independence, a dramatic change in routine, new or problematic relationships, unmet expectations, busy schedules, unresolved identity (“Who am I”), spiritual questions, uncertainty about the future, wounds from family of origin—any one of these issues could throw a young man or woman into a tailspin of depression, anxiety, anger, fear or addiction.  And often college students are wrestling with a combination of many or all of these challenges.  Restoration Pastoral Counseling Center is committed to walking alongside college students in a way that brings redemption and hope during this season of life.  We believe that students who deal with their struggles now, while they are still young, can positively change the trajectory of their lives forever.

Men's Outdoors Counseling Print E-mail

Often men are a lot better at “doing things” than they are at talking about their feelings.  At Restoration Pastoral Counseling, we understand it’s often uncomfortable or even unbearable for men to “sit on a couch and tell all their problems to a complete stranger.”  Therefore, David offers men and older boys the opportunity to participate in a unique counseling experience which incorporates outdoor activities such as golf, fishing, Frisbee, gardening, and walking/hiking into the healing process.  If you’re curious about counseling sessions that don’t take place in an office with a loaded bookshelf, call or email for more information.

The engagement period can be one of the most exciting and stressful seasons of a young couple’s life together.  During this time there is potential for tremendous growth and connection, but there is also the danger of remaining naïve and ill-prepared for the challenges marriage brings.  Often pastors limited by time and distance aren’t able to provide thorough premarital counseling.  Therefore, Restoration Pastoral Counseling offers couples the chance to lay a strong foundation for marriage by processing such topics as communication, conflict resolution, money management, intimacy, and family dynamics.  As part of the counseling process, couples have the option of taking the PREPARE/ENRICH Inventory, an online assessment tool aimed at helping couples identify both strength and growth areas in their relationship.  David Bailey is a Prepare/Enrich trained facilitator.

The mission of Restoration Pastoral Counseling is to provide affordable, accessible, high quality pastoral counseling and education to individuals, couples, families and groups.  There are several ways to support this mission:

1.  Pray

Please pray for the center, for the counselor, for the supporting church and for all those in the midst of counseling.

2.  Refer

Referrals to RPCC are always welcome.  They may be directed to David Bailey: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 334-745-3421. Also, if you are a member of Sunday School classes, Bible studies or other groups which might be interested in having David speak on counseling related topics, such invitations are welcome.

3.  Financial Giving

RPCC seeks to offer counseling services even to those who are unable to meet the requested $70 per session donation.  To that end, the Restoration Pastoral Counseling Scholarship fund is set up through First Presbyterian Church.  Any support towards bringing high quality counseling services to a wider section of people is appreciated.  Contributions are tax deductible.  If you are interested contact the FPC office at 334-745-3421.

About

It seems that the American credo generally and the Southern way particularly is "‘pick yourself up by your bootstraps’ and start living a better life."  Unfortunately, that type of thinking results in Christians who feel like they have to put on happy faces and pretend that everything in their families, their marriages and their individual lives is perfect.  Under the surface, however, most of us are struggling and hurting in profound ways, and thankfully Jesus invites those who are weary and burdened to come to him for rest—not those who have it all together. Therefore, Restoration Pastoral Counseling exists not only to address the surface behavioral issues in a person’s life, but also to work hard at integrating psychology and theology in a way that taps into the core struggles of his or her heart.  In so doing, RPC aims for clients to experience the safety of God’s presence and the freedom of the gospel in ways they never have before, even in the face of the following challenges:

  • Abuse and neglect recovery (Physical, Sexual, Verbal)
  • Addiction
  • Anger
  • Anxiety, fear and worry
  • Career and vocation
  • Depression
  • Divorce
  • Family issues
  • Grief and loss
  • Identity issues
  • Marital and premarital issues
  • Relational struggles
  • Sexuality
  • Spiritual concerns and faith questions
  • Stress

Fees

The cost of each individual or family session is based on the following sliding scale:

Household income less than $40,000 per year = $40.00 per session

Household income between $40,000-60,000 per year = $55.00 per session

Household income above $60,000 per year = $70.00 per session

Restoration Pastoral Counseling Center, as a ministry of First Presbyterian Church Opelika, does not want money to be a barrier to anyone seeking help.  Therefore, there are scholarships available to those who need financial assistance.
