Mark 10:14 & 16 – and [Jesus] said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God” …. And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.
When we read this familiar passage, the love Jesus has for children practically jumps off the page. What Jesus demonstrates here in Mark 10 is exactly what we desire to see for the children God has graciously given to our church family: to see them wrapped up in the arms of Jesus. While the primary means of bringing children to the feet of Jesus is through the ministry of their parents, it is our privilege as their extended church family to love and serve whole families, assisting parents in showing the gospel love of Jesus to their kids and showing the love of Jesus to parents as we come alongside them to love and serve them in their calling. How we seek to do this is by providing gospel centered teaching that is tailored to their age and stage of development as well as providing loving nursery care to allow parents to experience personal renewal every Lord’s Day. It is with this desire and the blessing that is an ever growing number of children at FPO that we look forward to a new space dedicated and designed for just such a ministry.
God has graciously provided for our needs at every turn, and our story as a church family is a testimony to the goodness, faithfulness, and love of Jesus. The existing rooms in the manse, that have served as children’s ministry space for the last handful of years, are packed every Sunday with children hearing about & celebrating the good news of Jesus – it is a hub of crowded chaotic joy. As we partner together to raise the needed funds for a new facility to care for these kids (and those God plans to bring into our family in the coming years) we are responding to the faithfulness of God in providing young families and their children for us to love (and be loved by) and serve (and be served by). When we give financially to this project, even to the point of giving sacrificially, we are affirming God’s goodness to us in giving us the opportunity to be agents of His love for this generation of children, and for generations to come. God has loved us abundantly by bringing these young ones into our family, and we want these infants, toddlers, growing children, parents, grandparents, and our loving Heavenly Father to know we are truly thankful.
The provision of a new children’s ministry building impacts the whole of our ministry here at FPO. It will not only provide adequate space for children, but will also free up current space to be used for the weekly ministry of First Pres as well as, Lord willing, greater engagement in serving and loving our community here in Opelika and Auburn.
God has graciously brought us together – a family of grandparents, parents, singles, college students and visiting parents, as well as children and teens of every age. We ask every one of our family members to make a pledge to this campaign after prayerful consideration of what each can give in the form of 1) prayer for this expansion of ministry and 2) where resources and personal sacrifice allows, a dollar pledge.
Join me in prayerful and excited anticipation as we wait and see what God has in store for us in the coming years!
With thankfulness for Him and for you,
