DECLARATION OF FAITH
Westminster Shorter Catechism: Questions 21 & 22
WSC Q. 21. Who is the Redeemer of God’s elect?
A. The only Redeemer of God’s elect is the Lord Jesus Christ, who, being the eternal Son of God, became man, and so was, and continueth to be, God and man in two distinct natures, and one person, forever.
WSC Q. 22. How did Christ, being the Son of God, become man?
A. Christ, the Son of God, became man, by taking to himself a true body, and a reasonable soul, being conceived by the power of the Holy Ghost, in the womb of the virgin Mary, and born of her, yet without sin.
GUIDE TO WORSHIP
Comfort is good but it is not always a sign of God’s blessing. Sometimes, as the church, our comfort could even be a sign that we have become “friends” with the world and thereby become a non-threatening existence. Jesus never promised comfort to His people but He did promise He would never leave us nor forsake us – He also promised life!
When we suffer, God calls us to hold fast and reminds us of the surpassing value of Christ and to be loyal to Him above all else. God is sovereign and faithful, He will make our enemies bow before us and He will give us an everlasting and secure presence in the city of God. If you are suffering: hold fast. If you are comfortable: examine yourself. Above all, let us look to Christ for who He is and what He has done on our behalf.
