Sunday morning changes are coming to FPO beginning on August 20, 2017, and we pray and expect that God will use these small changes in big ways for His Kingdom! We’re excited to share with you how our new Sunday morning schedule will play out for our families and children.
Our Sunday morning activities will essentially include two “blocks” of time – 9:15 am and 10:45 am. Each block of time will offer a worship service* and stage-in-life based Fellowship Groups. The idea is that you attend worship during one block and a Fellowship Group during the other block. We urge families with children and youth in the home to worship together as a family during the 9:15 am block, and then participate in Fellowship Groups and Sunday school during the 10:45 am block.
Most of our families with children are in the habit of attending the 10:45 worship service. So why do we suggest that you make this change? There are several important reasons! First of all, Children’s Sunday school (for 2-year-olds through 6th graders) and the Youth Fellowship Group (7-12 grades) will be offered ONLY during the 10:45 am block. Sunday school classes are the most important component of our Children’s Ministry at FPO, providing precious, age-appropriate (and fun!) time for children to build relationships with one another and to grow in faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ. Also, the stage-in-life-based Fellowship Groups that are most suitable for the parents of children and youth will also be offered ONLY during the 10:45 am service. And finally, the beloved Children’s Message will be included ONLY in the 9:15 am worship service.
Children’s Sunday school classes will begin at 10:45 am and will last for one hour and 15 minutes, giving us 30 additional minutes to be together. I am excited about having more time with the children, and we plan to use it well. Each class will begin with welcome time and – everyone’s favorite – snack! Then, children three-years-old through 6th grade will take some time to gather in the chapel for large-group singing (joyful noise!) and learning. They’ll close out the time in their classrooms with their teacher. Parents should plan to drop off and pick up their children at the classrooms. Classroom locations will remain the same.
The Youth will gather at the Carriage House at 10:45 am for the Youth Fellowship Group, which will provide intentional time for connecting with one another and their leaders, as well as a time for study and prayer.
August 20 will also be Promotion Day for our children who are moving to a new class! Click here for a lineup of classes, teachers, and locations.
Let’s pray together expectantly for the Lord to bless these efforts to make our Sunday morning time together glorifying to Him! If you have questions or concerns, please contact Lisbeth Chapman.
*Nursery for children 12 weeks through 3 years will be offered during both blocks.
